October 2023Where it began
One teacher, one phone call
Lukas was already making music and selling his first songs, and he was curious about building a business. His economics teacher, Edita Naidaitė, kept encouraging him to turn the music into a real company.
So he asked the one friend he knew would say yes: Modestas. Together they started GOSS as a student company in the Lithuanian Junior Achievement programme at Kauno Maironio universitetinė gimnazija.
Autumn 2023First try
DJ nights at our school
The first event was a disco at our own school: Lukas on the decks, Modestas on everything else, from the playlist to the lights to getting people through the door. About twenty people danced, and we loved it. More nights followed in the school hall, including Halloween and a winter disco.
It was fun, but it was hard to earn money from and even harder to grow. We needed something that could scale.
Christmas 2023Second try
Songs made to order, and our first award
Next we added personal music greetings: custom songs for weddings and other big days. Every track took a long time to make by hand, so this did not scale either. We looked at building an app for AI-made songs, but tools like that already existed and we could not find a way to stand out.
At the Christmas Student Company Expo 2023 we still won the award for best teamwork. That was when we knew we worked well together: Lukas the creative, Modestas the strategist.
2024First milestone
On stage at eighteen
Lukas was invited to speak at the EFEKT 2024 conference: about his story, about making music, and about what it means to start a business in sound at eighteen.
2024Third try
Music for ads, and three awards at one fair
We kept the DJ nights and started offering background music for companies’ ads. With that we went to the International Student Company Expo 2024 in Kaunas and came home with three awards: best student company of the Kaunas region, best marketing strategy and third place overall. Usually a team takes home one award at most.
2024Proof of concept
A hackathon win
At the LJA Alumni x Junicorns hackathon we sharpened the idea, built a proof of concept and won a prize of legal services, exactly what a young company needs.
2024Fourth try
Sonic branding, and 2nd place in Lithuania
Then we redefined everything. Instead of single tracks, we would build a company’s whole sound identity: its logo, motto, mission and vibe in one place, turned into a jingle that our team writes, refines and checks for quality.
With that idea we reached the National Student Company Expo 2024 and won second place out of about 900 student companies in Lithuania. We had put countless hours into it, and we were over the moon.
2024Behind the scenes
The work nobody sees
Behind every fair were long evenings, video calls, building our own stand and printing our own stickers. Our mentor, Edita Naidaitė, helped us with everything along the way.
2024Selected
Ateities Vizionieriai
We were selected for the Ateities Vizionieriai (Future Visionaries) camp. A great experience, and more people who helped us grow.
TodayStill going
From student company to studio
Many mentors and people have helped us keep evolving since then. Today GOSS is a sonic branding studio working from Lithuania and Germany, making jingles and sonic logos for real clients. And we are still working to make it better.
How GOSS found its sound
Two school friends, one economics teacher who believed in us, and four ideas before the right one. This is how a student company in Kaunas grew into a sonic branding studio.
- 4
- ideas tested
- 6
- awards and prizes
- 2nd
- of ~900 student companies in Lithuania
The story is still being written.
The next chapter could be your brand’s sound.
